County staff updated the Cass County Building Committee on several facility operations items, including the relocation of the coroner’s office and recent work at the jail.
"The coroner's office has moved into their new additional office space about a week and a half ago now," Robert said, noting the move followed a lease agreement with the City of Fargo. Staff said most systems are in place but a small number of network connections remain to be completed and an additional wireless access point has been ordered.
Jail updates: A county staff member reported that shower discrepancies at the jail have been fixed and that the county expects to move some inmates back in as conditions are confirmed. The staff member also said drainage problems are being monitored and that five missing tables and nine chairs were recently installed to address earlier furniture shortfalls.
ITV retrofit: Gene and other staff described a retrofit of the grama room to serve as an ITV space so judges can better hear and see remote participants. The county said work included new TVs, rewiring and a custom dashboard and that, because most work used internal resources, the total cost was reported under $1,000.
Boiler maintenance: Robert praised Jean for overnight work in a temperamental annex boiler room during subzero temperatures to prevent shutdowns; staff credited Jean with stabilizing building heat control in extreme cold.
What’s next: Staff will finish remaining network and drainage work and monitor whether additional repairs are needed. No formal actions were taken during the meeting on these operational items.
