Committee reports several gubernatorial appointments and sends multiple bills to committee calendars

During the Feb. 3 exec session the Law and Justice Committee considered multiple gubernatorial appointments and finalized committee recommendations for several bills.

The committee moved to report Kristen Ferreira (appointment 9272) with a recommendation that the appointment be confirmed. It then reported Lisa Mannion (9255), Kate Benoit (9256) and Rochelle Cleland (9271) with similar recommendations, each "subject to signatures." Committee members voiced both support and reservations during the record votes and discussion. Senator Holy questioned records in one nominee's history, saying the nominee had been "not just a member of Alliance for Gun Responsibility, but actually threatened to enforce state criminal laws against ICE officers," a characterization raised in committee debate.

Separately, the committee reported multiple bills with due-pass recommendations: SB 5,925 and SB 6,086 were sent to the Rules Committee; SB 6,296 was sent to the Ways and Means Committee. The committee noted that some amendments were out of order for final passage and that additional floor work may be required on several measures.

The chair closed the exec session, thanked staff, and adjourned.
