During public comment, two residents from the Anna Street area urged the Historic Landmark Commission to include their blocks in the proposed downtown historic district.
"I would like for the new historic district to also include Oliver And Anna Street, my neighborhood," said Jody Ismert, who gave her address as 819 Anna Street and described the neighborhood as "an 80 year old neighborhood" built for returning World War II veterans. Ismert said neighbors she had spoken with support inclusion and that residents want historic-style lighting.
Felicia Coleman, 818 Anna Street, told commissioners she bought her home in 2004 and called the two-block area "a historic neighborhood," noting original details such as a fireplace built by a local craftsman and long-term residents and renters who form a community. Coleman also mentioned missing sidewalks and asked why the area is not already designated.
Commissioners thanked both speakers, reiterated that public comment is not for deliberation, and invited the speakers to provide contact information so staff can follow up. Staff said they will be in touch and encouraged neighborhood organizing as the typical path to begin district nomination.
