Panel backs Florida joining Respiratory Care Interstate Compact to ease workforce strain

Representative Connerly presented HB 1235 to authorize Florida's participation in the Respiratory Care Interstate Compact, enabling eligible Florida licensees to apply for a compact privilege to practice in other member states while preserving state regulatory authority. He said the compact modernizes licensure and supports workforce readiness during seasonal respiratory surges.

Ryan Philpott, president of the Florida Society for Respiratory Care, testified in support on behalf of more than 14,000 respiratory therapists, asserting the compact would improve patient access, support continuity of care, and aid military families who relocate. No opposition was recorded. The committee voted 16-0 to report the bill favorably.
