The Utah House on Feb. 2 adopted multiple standing committee reports — Business, Labor and Commerce; Economic Development and Workforce Services; Education; Health and Human Services; and Rules — advancing many bills to third-reading calendars or assigning them to standing committees.
Notable committee actions included committee recommendations for substitute or amended versions of bills such as HB172 (food safety), HB203 (noncompete), HB268 (towing notice and ownership rights), HB404 (designated housing amendments), HB243 (gambling revisions), HB250 (Utah retirement plan exchange), HB309 (Juneteenth observance amendments), and HB352 (higher education alignment). The Rules Committee also recommended committee assignments and substitute placements across a range of bills.
The clerk read introductions for newly filed bills, including measures on artificial intelligence (HB438), water planning (HB439), school lunch (HB440), property transactions (HB441), feminine hygiene products (HB442), and data privacy (HB450), among others.
Announcements included recognition of visiting student groups and scheduled sponsor-provided breaks and receptions; the House adjourned until Tuesday, Feb. 3 at 11:00 a.m.
