The Oklahoma Senate on the opening day of the 2026 regular session approved a motion to allot up to $1,500 from Senate funds to each senator for office‑related expenses for the 2026 calendar year and adopted the chamber's mileage allowance report.
Madam Floor Leader moved the expense allotment, saying, “I move that each senator be allotted a maximum of $1,500 from Senate funds for expenses related to office official state business, including but not limited to postage, electronic communications, equipment or its usage, office equipment supplies and printing.” The motion covers expenses incurred from Jan. 1, 2026, through Dec. 31, 2026, and requires senators to reimburse the Senate for any excess by Jan. 29, 2027. The motion was approved by voice vote; the presiding officer announced, “The ayes have it.”
Minutes later the chamber approved adoption of the report of mileage allowance on a separate voice vote. Both actions were handled as routine, voice‑vote motions without a recorded roll call or a written tally announced on the floor.
Separately, the Clerk read the list of measures introduced on first reading, including a series listed as “Senate bills 11 86 through 2,183,” Senate joint resolutions 23–46, Senate concurrent resolutions 13 and 14, and Senate resolutions 23–26. The Clerk concluded first readings; no floor debate on those measures is recorded in the transcript.
The Senate also used part of the day for introductions and recognitions — including the doctor, psychologist and nurse of the day and several family and constituency guests — before receiving a message from the House of Representatives that it was ready to convene in joint session. The Senate recessed for the joint session and, after the Clerk's desk was cleared, stood adjourned until Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2026, at 1:30 p.m.
Authorities cited on the floor during opening procedures include Article 5, Section 26 of the Constitution of the State of Oklahoma and a citation to Title 75, Oklahoma Statutes (2021), Section 26.14, referenced when the Clerk read bills and resolutions on first reading.
