The Anderson County Commissioner’s Court on Dec. 30 approved transferring unexpended funds from the Sheriff's Office budget into capital outlay to purchase a Can-Am side-by-side and accessories from H & W Honda for law-enforcement use.
A presenter explained the operational need while describing recent field conditions: "Most recent, we had an individual who was shot. They were, like, way off in the woods and trying to get a pickup down in there. Ambulance couldn't make it...and ultimately ended up having to carry him out," the presenter said, arguing that a side-by-side with lights and a winch would assist in searches and other county needs. He asked the court to authorize up to $30,000 to rig the unit as required.
The court discussed transport logistics; staff said the Sheriff's Office has a trailer seized previously that can be used to haul the unit. The judge confirmed the amount requested matched budget amendment No. 188.
Commissioner Mims moved to approve the transfer and purchase; Commissioner Will Banks seconded. The court approved the motion by voice vote. The transcript records the affirmative voice vote (ayes) but does not record a roll-call tally.
The county described this as a capital-equipment purchase for law enforcement and said staff would complete procurement and outfitting as specified. The record did not list a detailed equipment specification sheet or procurement contract in the minutes; staff follow-up is required to confirm final vendor paperwork and outfitting costs.
