Franklin City — Council members on Feb. 2 thanked public-safety and public-works crews for clearing roads after a recent storm and heard that the city tracked $74,748.11 in snow-removal costs.
During council comments the presiding speaker said the city tracked equipment, salt and manpower costs tied to the snowfall and cited a total of $74,748.11. "This snowfall, we had it tracked with what we were spending, equipment, salt, manpower, $74,748.11 is what this snowfall," the speaker said.
Members praised the fire, police and street departments for their work and noted the city coordinated multiple departments to prioritize main roads and then address secondary routes and trails. Council members also reported community gratitude and highlighted a neighborhood focus on safety after the storm.
The presiding speaker said a pole-barn-style structure at the street department "literally is a pole barn with a roof on it and it come down," but that crews avoided major equipment loss. Council members asked about mailbox impacts and confirmed no major equipment damage was reported.
The snow-related expenses were described during discussion of budget transfers earlier in the meeting; council members did not take separate formal action to authorize additional appropriations tied explicitly to the snow costs during this session.
