Board authorizes roughly $298,000 HVAC equipment purchase for school gyms and approves equipment bids for education center

The Royal Oak Schools Board on Jan. 8 approved equipment-only HVAC purchases to add or upgrade air conditioning in district facilities.

For gymnasium cooling equipment at Royal Oak High School and Royal Oak Middle School the board authorized the superintendent to finalize and sign a contract with Carrier Corp/Griffin International for $298,324, plus a 10% contingency to address unforeseen conditions. Trustee Wiki moved the motion and Trustee Anderson seconded; the motion carried by voice vote.

For the Royal Oak Education Center equipment purchase, the board approved bid awards to Airtech HVAC LLC ($232,443), Michigan Air Products ($20,020) and Bullhouse LLC ($23,600), with a 10% contingency. The action was described as equipment-only; installation and remaining construction-related bids will be presented to the board at a later meeting (presenter noted long lead times for equipment, with installation items planned for March consideration).

Both motions were approved by voice vote.
