Titus County's commissioners unanimously approved hiring Wilf & Henderson PC of Texarkana as the county's external auditor for fiscal 2026.
Annette, speaking from the auditor's office, recommended the firm after reviewing its portfolio and meeting with firm representatives. "There is no regulatory requirement to go out for request for proposals because it's under the allotted amount," she said, and noted a key consideration was the firm's willingness to do on-site work so the county can continue to receive timely audits. She told the court the firm proposed conducting audit fieldwork on Nov. 9 and that the county's estimated cost would be $36,000 plus $3,500 for a single audit, with an additional $2,500 for a state audit if needed.
Annette said the proposed fees are in line with what the county has paid in recent years and that the firm is familiar with similar county audits. She also said the county's prior auditor, Arnold & Walker, has agreed to assist with transition questions.
Commissioner Parker moved to approve the contract; Commissioner Mitchell seconded. The motion passed by unanimous voice vote.
The court directed staff to accept the firm's engagement letter when it is prepared and to proceed with scheduling the audit work for the November timeframe.
