Jefferson County supervisors voted June 16 to approve final plans and authorize signatures for replacement of an old timber bridge on Grama Creek Road.
The project is estimated at $553,661 and uses off-system bridge funds so no local match is required, staff said. The bid date is set for Oct. 21, 2025, with construction expected to begin after winter work and landowner coordination so crews can clear and grub off-season. County staff said they will need to acquire four parcels for right of way and estimated those costs would be modest — “less than $30,000” — based on preliminary plats and minor acquisition procedures.
County engineers described the new bridge as a roughly 90-foot span with intermediate piers and designed to carry legal loads up to 80,000 pounds when complete; federal-aid requirements and a natural-resources evaluation must be satisfied as part of the process. Supervisors also discussed schedule implications for adjacent property owners and noted the road will be closed for demolition and reconstruction.
The board moved, seconded and approved the plans by voice vote and signed the front of the bid documents to proceed to letting. The county said contractors will be offered winter work for clearing and grading so construction can proceed in early summer once weather permits.
