Residents raised concerns during public comment about heavy sand and aggregate tracking after recent chip-seal work on county roads, reporting chunks in tire treads, undercarriage buildup and a pronounced vibration at highway speeds.
County road staff explained how chip seal works and acknowledged an instance where a heavier sand application caused tracking when rain wicked lighter binder into the sand. Staff said the county switched to a lighter oil and lighter sand mix for subsequent work and will broom affected stretches, apply a lighter sand coat, and open the county shed to clean vehicles using degreaser and hot-water equipment. Staff asked residents to document damage and said they would attempt to make repairs and offer vehicle cleaning as a goodwill measure.
Supervisors and residents discussed where crews would stop work (city limits were cited) and which stretches had been completed; staff repeated they would not apply additional treatments to sections already set and encouraged residents to bring photos and records to the county office so staff could evaluate claims.
