Board approves minutes, payroll and two appointments; votes to enter closed session

The Linn County Board of Supervisors opened the meeting, approved minutes from Dec. 8, 9 and 10, and approved the employment change roster and payroll authorizations by voice vote.

Supervisor 1 moved to appoint Sammy Sheets to the Hiawatha Economic Development Corporation (three-year term, Jan. 1, 2026'Dec. 31, 2028); the motion carried with one abstention recorded in the transcript. The board also reappointed Leon Sokup as trustee for Fire District 3 for a three-year term beginning Jan. 1, 2026.

Later in the meeting the board made a motion to enter closed session pursuant to Iowa Code section 21.5(1)(a) to discuss two draft ordinances and two draft agreements and to maintain the records as confidential under Iowa Code 22.7(65). A roll-call vote was taken and the board moved into closed session.

The board recessed and later reconvened; following reconvening staff proceeded with budget items for the afternoon agenda.

Next steps: the closed-session topics remain confidential under state law; the items that require final action will return to an open agenda as appropriate.
