Scofield to consider townwide service-line protection plan; item added to Feb. 9 hearing

Scofield Town Council on Jan. 12 discussed a service-line protection program that would provide coverage for water, sewer and gas service lines through a townwide enrollment with a 60-day opt-out period.

Council members noted homeowners can obtain service-line endorsements on personal homeowner policies (roughly $70/year for certain coverage levels) but that a townwide program may offer broader coverage and convenience. The plan requires an ordinance to place the charge on the utility bill and the council agreed to add the item to the Feb. 9 meeting at 6:15 p.m. to solicit public comment and make a final determination.

Councilors asked staff to include clear notification to residents and to coordinate the service-line item with the utilities public hearing already scheduled that evening to streamline public engagement.
