Council reviews proposed cemetery fee schedule; public hearing to be scheduled

Unidentified Speaker 1 told the council that an updated cemetery fee schedule (based on a 2010 draft) sets the opening and closing of a grave at $700 and cremation burials at $200; the speaker also said the owner would be responsible for the full cost of removal and replacement of memorials. Speaker 2 noted that the item should be scheduled for a public hearing so the council and community can review the full fee schedule.

Speaker 2 said the cemetery-fee language had been missing certain fees in packet materials and that the council would prepare for a public hearing when staff circulates the updated proposal. Kim Wall Roberts’ procedural report and other packet materials were noted as distributed to council members; Monica was asked to provide copies of the cemetery proposal to attendees and the public.

Council discussion did not include a formal vote on fees during this meeting; the council intends to place the cemetery fee schedule on a future agenda for public hearing and possible adoption after community input.
