The Carbon County Commission opened sealed bids for several road-department needs and acknowledged receipt of competitive proposals.
Officials reported four bidders for concrete work (curb & gutter, sidewalks, drive approaches, pedestrian ramps, waterways), and commissioners voted to turn the bids over to Road Shop staff (named in the meeting as Daniel, Luke and John) to review and award the work. One staff member read per-item prices from a bid by Arrowhead Construction (examples cited included curb & gutter at $51 per linear foot and sidewalk at $14 per square foot).
For industrial oils (2024), staff said they received no bids; commissioners directed Road Shop staff to approach vendors directly and document low-price purchases, noting considerations such as trucking costs and delivery logistics.
For 2024 hot-mix asphalt, staff reported a single bidder (Nelson Construction/Nielsen) with multiple product prices per ton; commissioners discussed supply constraints (a minimum order of roughly 400 tons per day) and authorized flexibility for the road department to pick up asphalt from alternate sources (for example, Geneva/Orem) when cost-effective.
The commission took motions to acknowledge the bids, direct staff review and allow the Road Shop flexibility in purchasing and pickup as needed.
