David McIntyre, Brunswick County emergency management director, delivered an afternoon briefing saying precipitation is expected to increase in the county "in the form of snow as the day goes on," and urged residents to limit travel and take safety precautions.
The update said smaller amounts of snow had been seen in the county's southern regions but added that conditions would change through the evening and overnight. "We will start seeing precipitation, increase, in the form of snow as the day goes on," McIntyre said, adding that residents should "limit your activities out on the roadways if possible" and stay off the roads if heavy snow begins.
McIntyre said public services were operating at the time of the briefing. He also warned residents to use electrical heating devices and portable generators safely and not to run generators inside garages or other enclosed spaces to avoid carbon monoxide exposure. He said warming shelters are open and managed by county partners, and that "information and access numbers are listed on our county website" for anyone who loses power or needs a place to stay warm.
The director urged people to keep a ready state, monitor media channels for updates, and contact county partners for assistance if needed. He closed by reiterating that the county's preparedness posture—referred to in the briefing as "Brunswick Ready"—is in place.
The county's website has contact numbers and location information for warming shelters and other resources for residents affected by the winter weather.
