The Anaheim Union High School District recognized several staff members at a district event, naming Miss Nguyen one of three district teachers of the year and honoring a district counselor as the district counselor of the year, district officials said.
With about 1,200 teachers across the district, the superintendent said the teacher award places Miss Nguyen into Orange County-level competition; the superintendent told attendees she "could be the Orange County teacher" and that a celebration for county honorees is expected at the Disneyland Hotel next year.
"I absolutely love coming to work and being here for them," Miss Nguyen said, thanking colleagues and students. She added that she loves working in the district and called it "a pleasure to be in this district."
Board President Jessica Guerrero was noted as present for the presentation. The superintendent also announced that the group would recite the Pledge; the transcript records that announcement but does not include the pledge text.
The district also recognized a counselor as district counselor of the year and offered thanks to counselors "who do so much," according to the superintendent. The transcript does not provide the counselor's full name.
Honorees received applause, light gifts and expressions of appreciation from attendees. According to the superintendent, Miss Nguyen will represent the district at the county competition; no formal board votes or policy actions were recorded during the recognition segment.
The recognition portion of the meeting concluded with honorees thanking attendees and referencing messages of support from former students. The district said further details about county competition and celebration logistics will follow.
