UN warns of severe displacement in Sudan and calls for donor support

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs warned that the situation in Sudan’s South Kordofan state has deteriorated rapidly, with intense artillery shelling and drone strikes reported across Dilling and surrounding localities, and telecommunications outages hampering casualty verification. The briefing said nearly half of Dilling's population (about 117,000 people) have been displaced and that health facilities and basic services are collapsing in many areas.

The briefing also cited International Organization for Migration estimates that more than 127,000 people were displaced from El Fasher in North Darfur between late October and mid‑January, adding strain to already overstretched services. It said that more than 88,000 people have been displaced across the Kordofan region since late October. The spokesperson said partners require $2,900,000,000 in 2026 to reach more than 20,000,000 people in need across Sudan and called on donors to step up urgent support.
