Commissioner Susan Adams highlights Fellsmere Resource Center, county priorities

Commissioner Susan Adams said Indian River County is focusing on planning for growth and investing in services for children and families, and she pointed to a new local project as a major priority. "Probably the thing that is the most exciting to me is the Fellsmere Resource Center," Adams said, adding the county "were able to work with the federal government to get some funding" to start the center.

Adams, who identified herself as the District 1 commissioner and said she has served on the county commission since 2016, said District 1 includes Fellsmere, Sebastian, Roseland and reaches to Yeehaw Junction. She described countywide priorities as community engagement to solicit resident input, infrastructure to accommodate growth, economic development, affordable housing and job creation, and continued advocacy for children’s services.

On the resource center, Adams said the facility "will serve as a library, but it will also serve as a service delivery hub," offering job training, veteran services, housing services, emergency services, computer labs and other technology for residents. The county representative did not specify the federal funding amount.

Adams framed the project as part of broader county efforts to provide both direct services and long-term planning: "We're doing a lot of community engagement, trying to find out what our residents wanna see for the county as we grow," she said. She urged continued investment in youth programs and local service providers, saying the Boys & Girls Club and similar organizations help create "that pipeline to our future leadership."

The episode did not include a formal vote or policy change; Adams described ongoing priorities and announced the Fellsmere Resource Center as a funded project in development. The county did not provide a funding amount or a target opening date in this conversation.
