Richmond, KY
During the special-call meeting, the board heard two community-focused presentations: a citywide food drive to restock God's Outreach Food Bank and an update from Redeeming Hope on a residential project for girls who are survivors of trafficking.
Kelly McBride, Richmond's public information officer, and Jennifer Brubaker of God's Outreach described a February food drive that will place donation barrels at Central Bank, US Bank and City Hall and include a QR-code monetary-donation option; contributors who donate via the QR code can register for weekly prize drawings.
A Redeeming Hope representative said Church on the Rock in Berea donated five acres for a nearly 7,000-square-foot home that will serve girls from across Kentucky, that construction is under roof and debt-free, and that the group is "about $90,000 away" from completing the property. The speaker said the house could ultimately hold up to 12 girls, with the program starting at eight residents.
Commissioners thanked the nonprofit partners and encouraged residents to participate in the food drive and support trafficking-prevention resources during National Human Trafficking Prevention Month.
