Marion County Planning Commission swears in Brandy Smith, elects Josh Weiser chair

The Marion County Planning Commission on Jan. 26 administered the oath to Brandy Smith, who was appointed to fill the District 3 seat on the commission. A county staff member administered the oath "to support the Constitution of the United States and the constitution of the state of Kansas and faithfully discharge the duties of Marion County Planning Commission."

The commission then reorganized its officers. Josh Weiser was nominated and elected chair by voice vote; the vice‑chair remained in office by unanimous consent. Commissioners confirmed that Sharon, a county staffer, will continue to serve as the recording secretary for commission meetings.

The reorganization and appointment were procedural actions taken at the start of the evening; commissioners noted that formal policy deliberations would follow later on Article 19 (short‑term rentals) and Article 27 (wind‑energy zoning). The commission advised the public that formal recommendations from tonight’s meeting will be forwarded to the Board of County Commissioners for final consideration.
