Selma BID sets spring event dates, themes and a 6–10 p.m. schedule for downtown gatherings

The Selma BID Advisory Board approved a schedule of four downtown food-truck events and preliminary themes to avoid a crowded April calendar and to maximize attendance.

Jose presented three scheduling options and recommended moving the events out of April into May and June. After discussion of school calendars, overlapping regional festivals and vendor preferences, the board selected option B: May 8, May 22, June 5 and June 19. Members agreed to tentative themes: May 8 as Tejano music night, May 22 for DJs (including a Battle of the DJs), June 5 as country night and June 19 as an oldies/throwback event. The board settled on a 6–10 p.m. time window, which members said would be late enough to draw adults after work and dark enough to showcase lighting and decorations.

Members debated whether to prioritize live bands or DJs; some said bands draw larger crowds while others noted bands are costlier. The board discussed alternating formats (band one event, DJ the next) and pursuing sponsorships to offset artist costs. Jose said he will pursue vendor quotes, look into sponsorship and return with a clearer budget aligned to the BID midyear review. Speaker 3 moved to approve Jose's notes and schedule; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote.
