Erath County Commissioners on Jan. 29 approved contracts and staffing needed for the March primary, took routine financial actions and recorded preparatory steps for upcoming county projects.
The court unanimously approved a joint primary election services contract between the Erath County Elections Administrator and the Erath County Democratic Party and, separately, a contract with the Erath County Republican Party for the March 3, 2026 primary. Commissioner Stevens moved both motions; Commissioner Ray seconded them. The court then approved a joint resolution and statistical information for the primary and potential runoff.
The court also approved lists of Democratic and Republican election judges for the primary elections. "It takes a lot of people, and we need people because it does take a lot of people to do it and make sure we're doing that," the presiding speaker said while noting an advertisement inviting citizen participation in election work.
In routine business the court approved departmental reports for November and December 2025, accepted the presented invoices and recurring payments as listed in the meeting packet, and adopted internal budget adjustments described by county staff. The packet listed multiple invoice totals (transcript numbers are inconsistent); the presiding speaker said the payments were approved by voice vote.
What’s next: The county elections office will proceed with preparations for the March primary using the approved contracts and appointed judges. Other administrative items were approved without further public discussion.
