House dispenses with routine readings, schedules committee meetings and adjourns until Monday

The House convened and was called to order, opened with a prayer led by page Addison Berry and recited the Pledge of Allegiance before taking up routine business.

During opening formalities, page Addison Berry asked for blessings for linemen, first responders and Mississippians affected by severe weather, concluding, "In Jesus' name, I pray." The chamber then completed the pledge.

With a quorum present, Brent Powell, the gentleman from Rankin, moved that the House "dispense with the reading of the journal." The Speaker called for a voice vote, asking members to indicate aye or no, and announced, "The ayes have it." The motion was approved without a recorded roll-call.

Members were informed that reports from standing committees were available on the counter. The gentleman from Harrison asked unanimous consent to dispense with the reading of introductions; hearing no objection, the Speaker instructed the clerk to follow that procedure.

During introductions of guests, the gentleman from Madison, Mr. McMillan, invited the chamber to welcome guests in the North Gallery and identified Madison County Sheriff Randy Tucker by name.

The clerk announced committee meeting times for Monday: Corrections will meet at 1:00 p.m. in Room 113; Judd Bee will meet at 2:00 p.m. in Room 113; Wildlife will meet at 3:00 p.m. in Room 114; Ports and Harbors will meet at 3:30 p.m. in Room 103. After adjournment, Youth and Family will meet in Room 103 and Gaming will meet in Room 402.

The Speaker recognized the gentleman from Rankin, who moved, "I move that the house stand adjourned until 2PM, Monday." The chamber responded verbally and the Speaker announced the motion passed: "Motion passes. We will see you at 2PM Monday."

The session closed with the Speaker thanking members and recessing the House until the announced reconvening time.
