At the start of its Jan. 28 meeting the Suicide Prevention Committee approved routine minutes and later voted to submit and post no‑cost pre‑crisis training materials (including youth mental-health first aid and related online resources) to the committee's website so residents and community partners can access them.
A committee member asked whether it was legal to share specific trainings on the website and requested materials be posted; the chair said the committee should vote on the proposal so it could move forward. Multiple members seconded the motion and the chair called the vote; the motion carried.
Members also heard that a recent 988 public-service announcement had generated community requests for information and that the county’s 988 call-routing handled about 79.8% of calls locally in 2025 while routing remaining calls to partner centers. There was discussion about changes to specialized 988 sublines: a committee member asked, "Is there any information about the cutting off of the LGBTQ line?" and was told the dedicated LGBTQ subline has been discontinued, though 988 remains available and callers can request specialized help (not guaranteed). The group confirmed the veteran line is still available.
The chair encouraged ongoing outreach work and announced a local rally at the corner of McPherson and Del Mar this Friday and a full-day mental-health symposium planned for Friday, May 1. The chair said the committee would circulate the midyear (July–December) report and related flyers by email and invited members to participate in outreach and upcoming events.
