Committee adds $100,000 to Racing and Gaming budget for radios and approves request

The Senate Federal and State Affairs committee voted to add $100,000, requested by the governor, to the Racing and Gaming Commission supplemental for police radios and related security measures and approved the Racing and Gaming Commission budget as amended.

Senator Francisco moved the addition, saying the funding should be added and any unspent dollars returned. Molly Pratt of the Legislative Research Department cautioned the program operates from a fee fund and that an unspent supplemental would likely remain in the fee fund. The committee nevertheless carried the motion on a voice vote and then approved the agency budget as amended.

The committee did not record a roll-call tally; the motions were carried by voice vote and the budget recommendation will proceed to the next step of the budget process.
