The St. Petersburg City Council on Jan. 22 approved a package of housing-related actions brought from committee. Vice Chair introduced a resolution asking city administration to prioritize creation of housing for households at or below 80% of area median income when allocating subsidies for privately owned affordable housing; the council moved, seconded and passed that resolution unanimously.
Council also approved three appointments to the Housing Authority: Christina Luciana to complete an unexpired term ending April 3, 2027; reappointment of James States to a new four-year term; and reappointment of Terry Lipsey Scott for a third term. The three appointment resolutions were taken together and approved unanimously.
On land-use matters, the council approved proposed ordinance 1177‑v to vacate a 10‑foot dead-end alley abutting Chadwick's Re subdivision in the 700 block of Burlington Avenue North, and adopted ordinance 630‑h to create a definition and zoning category for 'certified recovery residents' in the land-development code. There were no public speakers on those items and both ordinances passed without recorded dissent.
Council also debated keeping several referral-list items on committee lists (including a crane-notification discussion) and made a limited amendment to remove some referral items while retaining others for further staff follow-up. The transcript records unanimous approvals for the listed actions, with absences on some votes noted in clerk announcements.
