Senate committee advances technical fixes to state-lottery law in SB 530

The Senate Regulated Industries Committee on [date] voted to report favorably CS for SB 530, a bill that revises aspects of Florida’s state-lottery framework and clarifies contracting and procurement for lottery equipment.

Senator Pizzo, who presented the measure, said the bill updates the department’s powers and duties, alters what information must be provided by bidders and contractors, and adds definitions — including for a ‘‘ball machine.’’ He said the measure also gives the Department of Lottery flexibility to purchase machines rather than lease them.

Two technical amendments were adopted before the final vote. Amendment barcode 515854 corrected subsection structure and line numbering, and amendment barcode 707718 refined vending-machine operation language. Both were approved by voice votes.

The committee conducted a roll call after floor debate and reported CS for SB 530 favorably.
