Shawnee County commissioners on Jan. 29 approved Resolution R2026007 in its second reading to exchange the track and football-field portion of Central Park for Boswell Park.
County Counselor Ashley Beegard told the commission the matter had been published as required by state statute and was ready for consideration. Commissioners discussed neighborhood support for Boswell Park and noted the swap does not include the entirety of Central Park, only the area containing the track and football field. "This is the second reading for this matter. It was published in the paper as required by state statute, and it is right for your consideration and action this morning," Beegard said.
Commissioner Rippon moved to approve the resolution; Commissioner Mays seconded. The motion carried, 3-0. The action includes an exclusive-use contract (C2026005) outlining the school district's use of certain gymnasiums at Central Park, which the counselor identified as part of the exchange package.
The commission did not debate alternative terms during the meeting. The county will proceed under the terms approved in R2026007 and its accompanying contract as written by the counselor's office.
