Parish opens LIHEAP appointments, urges residents to sign up for emergency alerts amid cold weather

Mister Jewell, a Saint Charles Parish official, told residents the parish's Department of Community Services is taking appointments for Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) applications Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.–4 p.m., and said residents must prove permanent residence in Saint Charles Parish and meet state income regulations to qualify. He provided the community-services phone number (985) 764-7944 for appointments.

Addressing cold-weather impacts, Mister Jewell said the parish experienced cold weather the previous night and warned of additional low temperatures into the morning; he advised residents to "check the 4 P's, people, pets, pipes, and plants." He said the parish's REOC has been in communication with the National Weather Service about local impacts and encouraged residents to sign up for SCP emergency alerts by texting "SCP alerts" to 888777 or at www.scpemergencyalerts.com to receive urgent notices about industrial or weather-related incidents.
