Rialto awards $136,929 contract for Fire Station 201 construction management

The City of Rialto authorized staff to award a contract to Spex Engineering for construction management and inspection services for Fire Station 201 safety improvements in the amount of $136,929.20.

Public Works Director reported the city solicited proposals and received three qualified offers. Staff recommended Spex Engineering as the best value; the recommended fee of $136,929.20 reflects a reduction from an earlier estimate of $188,001.88. Council discussed the relative cost of construction management services (one member said 20% was excessive for construction management on small projects and urged staff to seek lower fees in future procurements) but ultimately approved the award by motion and unanimous vote.

Staff will proceed to finalize the contract and oversee construction management and inspection of Fire Station 201 safety improvements.
