CARMEL — The Library Board of Trustees approved a loan request allowing the Monterey Museum of Art to borrow the Mary Daniel Morgan painting that is currently displayed in the Harrison Memorial Library lobby.
Katie presented the request and told trustees the museum — a nationally accredited institution — supplied details on transportation, security and environmental controls and that the painting is in stable condition. Under the library's art-loan policy, the library requires a current appraised value; Katie said the museum has agreed to pay for a new appraisal and that the loan would return to the board and then to city council for final authorization.
Trustees asked about labeling and public notice while the piece is away. Katie said the museum plans an April–September loan period and the library will include notice about the work being "on loan"; staff said the wall will not be noticeably empty during the remodel period.
Motion and result: A trustee moved to approve the loan and a second was made; the motion passed with trustees registering approval.
What’s next: Staff will coordinate the appraisal and return final documentation to the board and city council as required by policy.
