Senator Joseph Baldacci presided over a public hearing in Augusta on the reappointment of Eric P. Ward to the Maine Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Advisory Council. The committee voted to recommend confirmation and will forward its recommendation to the Senate.
Joe Bushey, director of boards and commissions for Governor Janet Mills, appeared on behalf of the governor and asked the committee to confirm Ward. "Mr. Ward is the member representing Piscataquis and Somerset Counties," Bushey said, and described Ward's background as a Maine Maritime Academy graduate, an engineer, a registered Maine guide of more than 30 years, a former Piscataquis County commissioner and a member of the Maine Outdoor Heritage Fund Board.
Ward told the committee he welcomes the opportunity to continue serving, citing a lifetime of outdoor experience and long involvement with fisheries and conservation groups. "Fish and Wildlife deserve someone to stand up for them," he said.
Judy Camuso, commissioner of the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, also testified in support, noting Ward had served four years on the council and most recently as chair. The committee conducted a roll‑call vote and recorded 11 members in favor of recommending confirmation.
Next steps: The committee will send its written recommendation to the president of the Senate as required by statute.
