Woodside — Public works staff presented a summary of 2025 capital and maintenance work on Monday evening, highlighting new and upgraded crosswalks, a multi-mile road rehab, a hazardous-tree-removal program and a rooftop solar installation that staff said will be tied into the utility grid this week.
"The total project cost was $293,000," said Cindy, a public works staff member, describing the crosswalk work that added rapid-flashing beacons at Kenyatta Road and Romero Road and a new high-visibility crossing at Kings Mountain and Highway 84, completed in April 2025. The presenter also described a road-rehab project that micro-surfaced about five miles of road for $632,000 and a hazardous-tree removal program removing 33 eucalyptus and pine trees at a stated cost of $2,421,000.
On the town's solar work, Cindy said panels and new roofing were installed at Town Hall and Independence Hall in early 2025 and that the final step connecting the systems to PG&E was scheduled for Friday, which staff had provided as the target interconnection date. "We hope it's gonna be done this Friday," Cindy said.
During public comment, Miss Hansen asked about the activation timeline and said residents had experienced frustrations with the interconnection process. "When was the Town Hall solar installed? What is the expectation for when that will be activated?" she asked. Cindy responded that scheduling challenges delayed the interconnection and reiterated the Friday target date.
Town staff also described coordination with PCE on grant programs that could provide battery-backup systems and said they will publicize upcoming PCE opportunities. Brandy, a sustainability team member who works with PCE, told council staff had met with PCE about future grants that could include battery storage options to support resilience during fires or planned outages.
Council members praised the public works team's storm response and routine maintenance. "I see the crew out there at 7 in the morning, clearing culverts," one council member said, thanking staff for quick responses during storms.
What’s next: staff will complete the PG&E interconnection work and post related grant information on the town's channels; the public-works team will continue planned 2026 projects and report updates to council as they proceed.
