Board committee finalizes redistricting parameters ahead of Bearhill Elementary opening

The Tredyffrin‑Easttown ad hoc elementary redistricting committee has finalized parameters to guide the redistricting process tied to the opening of Bearhill Elementary School in 2027.

Dr. Roberta Hotinski, reporting to the board, said the committee adopted a proportional approach that sets enrollment targets based on each school’s classroom inventory so that schools’ capacities are more accurately matched. The committee also emphasized legal compliance, reasonably drawn boundaries, avoiding splitting neighborhoods and aligning with bus‑transportation best practices. As a result, the committee recommended keeping current middle‑school attendance areas unchanged so that fourth graders from each elementary school will continue to feed to the same middle school.

Dr. Hotinski said the committee’s work included public comment and enrollment projections and that steering‑committee membership for implementing redistricting will be selected in spring 2026. The committee scheduled next steps and will report the selection process to the full board at the March meeting.

What happens next: With parameters set, the district will form a redistricting steering committee this spring to draft boundary options and carry out community engagement ahead of any formal proposal or vote.
