KCAMP risk-management staff briefed the Brown County Commission on a recent assessment of county facilities and recommended a set of corrective actions to reduce property-loss and liability risk.
KCAMP representatives described recommendations ranging from low-cost housekeeping and signage to technical fixes. Speaker 10, answering questions about costs and requirements, said KCAMP reimburses members for approved risk-reduction purchases: "$2,000 that, we reimburse our members on an annual basis ... anything that's going to go towards the risk reduction of property loss or liability." KCAMP also confirmed that, per OSHA, stored oxygen and acetylene cylinders must be separated by a minimum of 20 feet; Speaker 10 noted, "The ones in storage must be separated by a minimum of 20 feet." Commissioners agreed to tackle low-cost items first, have custodial staff address housekeeping items and to identify which repairs require outside contractors.
Specific items discussed included the feasibility and cost of thermal (infrared) scans of electrical panels, anti-slip options for marble entry steps in a historic building, and whether lightning protection or surge protection are insurance requirements (KCAMP said they are precautionary recommendations, not underwriting requirements). KCAMP set a date for county corrective actions to be returned for review (March 6 per the letter referenced in the briefing).
County officials agreed to inventory which items custodial staff can handle, identify local vendors for thermal imaging if needed, and pursue KCAMP's reimbursement program for eligible expenditures. A commissioner volunteered to coordinate the follow-up tasks and report progress to the commission.
