San Luis High School students and CTE leaders presented their career and technical education (CTE) programs to the City of San Luis Mayor and City Council, describing hands-on classes, industry credentials and community partnerships.
Violeta Costa, identified as a CTE leader and co-president, and other student leaders said the school offers 16 programs that provide practical skills, opportunities for college credit and industry-recognized certifications. Costa and peers highlighted culinary arts, law and public safety, and construction as the three programs with the highest student interest and showed student projects completed for the San Luis Industrial Park and a local business, Eddie's Food and Drink.
Costa said the CTE courses helped her pursue leadership roles and professional certifications and that the program contributed to the school's current A grade. Other students described how the programs led to internships and work opportunities with city departments and regional competitions; one speaker credited meetings with visiting officials and training institutes for helping students advocate for their programs.
Mayor Nieves Raydel and multiple council members praised the students, offered congratulations and volunteered council support, including assistance with judging future events. The mayor said the students are “the future” and urged them to keep up the work. Council members also thanked teachers and mentors for their role in the students’ success.
The presentation concluded with council encouragement to continue supporting CTE activities and offers of help from city officials on events and judging panels.
