The Rules & Open Government Committee approved a mayor’s memo describing the process for the forecast and budget-priority study session scheduled for Feb. 5. The motion to approve the memo carried 5-0.
Chair Cohen described the memo as setting the process for the upcoming study session. During public comment, Blair Beekman warned the committee about budget pressures in other cities and urged prioritizing social services, saying the San Diego mayor "really wants to cut back on services in order to fix the deficit issues" and stressing that keeping social services is "incredibly important."
Committee members moved and seconded approval of the mayor’s memo with no further discussion; the chair announced the motion carried 5-0. The study session remains scheduled for Feb. 5 and staff will follow the memo’s timeline and process as laid out to the committee.
