Training for newly elected officials scheduled April 1 with county breakout sessions

Nate Zilles, speaking for the Association of Governments, announced the third annual training seminar for newly elected officials will be held April 1 at the UNO Conference Center. The event will run roughly from 8 a.m. with a 3 p.m. start for some sessions and will include dinner and breakout sessions tailored to counties.

Zilles said presenters will cover responsibilities of newly elected officials, government budgeting, legislative updates, land use and property-rights issues, and other topics relevant to mayors, council members, planning commissioners and staff. He said counties can register by scanning a QR code or emailing him directly, and that flyers and registration materials were available at the meeting.

Participants discussed county-specific breakout sessions coordinated with the Utah Association of Counties (UAC) and confirmed that the seminar will include materials useful to local officials. Several members praised past seminars as informative.
