The Planning and Zoning Board of the City of West Miami voted on Jan. 28 to defer consideration of proposed amendments to the city's fence-height rules until the June meeting.
Staff told the board the draft ordinance -- referenced during discussion as an amendment to zoning ordinance section 7.22 concerning how fence height is measured -- needs additional research and clearer drafting before the board should take action. Board members agreed the issue would be easier to address as part of a larger update to the comprehensive plan and a citywide rezoning effort, and discussed whether a fixed deadline should replace an indefinite deferral.
After debate on timing and technical points (including whether measurement should be from ground level or finished floor and how existing permit limits interact with proposed language), a board member moved to defer the matter until the June meeting. The motion carried by a 5-0 vote.
The board did not adopt new language at this meeting. Staff indicated the item will return to the board after additional research and drafting; no ordinance number or final text was approved on Jan. 28.
