Committee approves $500,000 in ARPA interest funds to help finish Family Justice Center shelter

Horry County's Administration Committee approved a resolution to award $500,000 in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) interest funds to the Family Justice Center to complete construction of a domestic violence shelter.

Administrator (Speaker 8) told the committee that the council previously authorized a $750,000 grant to the Family Justice Center under resolution R1332023 and that the project now needs an additional $1 million to finish construction projected for early 2026. The Family Justice Center has secured $500,000 in foundation support, and staff recommended awarding $500,000 in ARPA interest funds on a cost-reimbursement basis, to be managed under the county's existing grant agreement with the Family Justice Center.

During the presentation, the administrator thanked Sheriff’s Office personnel and county staff for their support of the project. The committee moved and approved the resolution by voice vote.

Next steps: staff will execute the grant amendment and administer reimbursements through the county's grant agreement.
