Council members raised concerns about rumors that the city planned to form its own fire department and discussed a formal resolution to clarify the city’s intent to maintain current fire service partnerships for the near term.
A council member proposed bringing "a resolution to commit to maintaining the status quo, barring any unforeseen circumstances," to prevent confusion and reduce speculative discussion. City staff supported the idea and said they would take responsibility for bringing a resolution forward and recommended updating the 2018 fire service study before any strategic decision on facilities or service model.
Staff noted that Corcoran’s three partner agencies continue to provide reliable service but that two partner agencies are facing imminent chief retirements, which could change partner capacity. The resolution, if adopted, would serve to clarify expectations for partners and the public while civic campus planning advances.
No formal motion on the resolution was taken in the work session; staff agreed to return a draft resolution and a proposal for a refreshed fire services study.
