Wickliffe — Council’s Committee of the Whole reported Jan. 20 that Old School Way meets the city’s specifications and recommended that the law director draft legislation to dedicate the street as a public thoroughfare. The council later placed Ordinance 2026-03 on first reading to dedicate Old School Way.
At a separate Board of Zoning Appeals meeting on Jan. 22, the board re-elected Keith Bennett as chair and Joan Nicholas as vice chair and considered variance applications. Matt Riley of Ryan Homes sought variances for two lots at 1570 and 1574 Old School Way in an R160 residential district; the board approved a 20.6% variance for 1570 and a 21% variance for 1574 to accommodate ranch-style homes with first-floor master bedrooms that require greater lot coverage.
Bridal Deming of Deming Enterprises applied for a variance to construct a security booth at 29501 Clayton Avenue in an industrial district to serve PCC Airfoils, which is performing government work and requires secure parking and controlled access. The board discussed traffic impacts during shift changes and whether an automated gate could avoid the variance; after debate the board approved a 70% variance by a 3–2 vote.
The Committee of the Whole asked the law director to prepare dedication legislation for Old School Way to appear on the next regular council agenda.
