The Twin Rivers Unified Board approved two instructional items: a K–6 health curriculum pilot for the 2024–25 year and the district’s annual Title 3 local plan for 2024–25.
Kirsty Schroeder, director of curriculum and professional development, outlined the health curriculum pilot: the district has recruited 16 teachers for grades 1–6, will place materials on public display, hold a community meeting in November, and return in January 2025 with a recommendation for adoption and implementation targeted for 2025–26. Schroeder said the pilot aligns with California Education Code sections 51210 and 51202 and emphasized attention to age‑appropriate content and program organization.
Giselle Villegas, director of English Learner Services, presented the Title 3 local plan update, citing rising English learner and immigrant student counts (the transcript reports English learners increased from about 4,360 to 7,270 over several years and 573 students recently reclassified as English proficient). The Title 3 plan priorities include maintaining a program specialist and instructional coaches, professional development aligned to California English language development standards, and family outreach activities to connect families with district and community resources.
Both items were moved and approved by the board; trustees asked about parent engagement timelines for the health pilot and requested staff outreach during the fall public display period.
What’s next: Staff will run the pilot, hold the public community meeting, and return with a formal recommendation for adoption in January 2025.
