The Mona City Council voted Jan. 27 to approve Resolution 2026‑3, renewing the city’s contract for municipal garbage pickup with Country Garbage.
Jay Macom, the company’s representative, told the council the firm was not seeking a rate increase and described the current pricing structure: “It’s $9 for the first can, $8 for the second,” he said, and explained that an $18 charge tied to dumpsters covers county landfill fees and building fees the city remits. Macom said Country Garbage has provided local service for more than 20 years and asked the council to renew the contract so the company could continue service without interruption.
Council members probed the contract term. Macom said he generally prefers a five‑year term but could accept a shorter term. One councilor said a shorter contract would let an incoming council reassess costs; another said a five‑year term gives stability. After discussion, a council member moved to approve Resolution 2026‑3; the motion was seconded and the council approved the measure.
After the vote, staff and Macom arranged signing logistics so the company would receive fully executed copies. Macom thanked the council for the decision and reiterated the company’s commitment to local service.
The contract renewal carries no explicit price increase in the presentation; the council discussed whether to adopt a three‑ or five‑year term but did not direct staff to change service rates at the meeting. The council record shows the resolution passed and staff will file the signed agreement.
