The Mono City Council confirmed on Jan. 27 that Council member Amy Stanley submitted a resignation citing family and health reasons.
Unidentified Speaker (S3) said the city must post the open seat for 14 days before holding a public vacancy meeting to interview applicants. ‘‘We have to give it I have to post it for 14 days,’’ Unidentified Speaker (S3) said; after the filing period the council will conduct interviews in an open meeting and choose a replacement. The council discussed drafting a standard set of interview questions to ensure fairness among candidates.
Council members tentatively agreed to post the position immediately and hold interviews beginning the week of Feb. 11, with a proposed meeting on Thursday, Feb. 12 at 6 p.m. If many candidates apply, the council said it would adjust the interview format and scheduling. Staff said the city attorney will advise on process details and deadlines tied to the resignation date; the council noted a statutory expectation to fill the vacancy within 30 days of the resignation.
Unidentified Speaker (S3) also noted Recreation Director Miller could help evaluate candidates who will work closely with the recreation department. No formal appointments or votes occurred during the work session; posting and interview scheduling were described as next steps.
