Superintendent proposes assistant superintendent title for Justin; committee to vet Act 44 reassignment

Doctor Redmond told the personnel committee he wants to realign duties rather than add staff and proposed changing Justin’s title to assistant superintendent to cover some of the responsibilities left by a departing administrator. He described the plan as a realignment "not adding another person," and estimated net district savings around $225,000 compared with prior central‑office staffing levels.

Committee members raised concerns that Justin could become overburdened if additional duties, including Act 44 (school safety and security) responsibilities, were assigned to him. Several members suggested assigning the Act 44 designee role to Mike Fetzer, who currently handles environmental health and safety matters. Doctor Redmond said he will review state code and consult the solicitor to confirm whether the Act 44 designee must meet any statutory administrator requirement and will report back to the committee by email and at the February work session.

The committee did not make a final assignment but asked staff to supply the proposed assistant‑superintendent job description and a list of Act 44 duties and state‑code references so the full board can act after legal vetting.
