Gulf County agrees to abandon interest in dedicated road strip, to aid Hanlon family quiet‑title effort

The commission voted to abandon any county interest in a parcel that had been dedicated for a public street in the CF Hanlon subdivision, after resident Daniel G. Hanlon said the strip had been sold and the family wishes the original dedication to be honored.

County counsel advised that a formal resolution abandoning county interest would assist the Hanlon family in a quiet‑title action: the county’s vote and resolution would be included in any court filing and county staff would cooperate with affidavits or signatures needed for reversion. The attorney said the first step is a motion and vote by the commission to record that the county does not intend to maintain or claim the strip.

Commissioner Macklemore moved and Commissioner Husband seconded a motion to abandon any county interest; the board approved the motion 5–0 and asked county counsel to prepare a resolution to that effect and to provide the Hanlon family a copy once drafted.

What happens next: staff will draft the abandonment resolution and provide it to Mr. Hanlon; Mr. Hanlon was advised to pursue a quiet‑title action in the Fourteenth Judicial Circuit using the county resolution as evidence of abandonment.
