The Faribault Public Schools School Board handled multiple routine and administrative items at its Jan. 26 business meeting, approving the consent agenda, accepting a slate of community donations, approving a new cybersecurity insurance policy that reduces premiums, and approving a memorandum of agreement with the teacher bargaining unit.
Consent agenda: The board approved minutes, personnel actions, payments/transfers and retirements as presented; the chair announced the consent agenda passed 7-0.
Gifts and donations: By Resolution 26-17 the board accepted winter gear from the Faribault Area Chamber of Commerce estimated at $7,725 in value (coats, boots, hats, scarves) and multiple monetary and in-kind donations to district programs, including a Faribault Booster Club gift of $838 for the tennis team and a $500 donation from Chad and Courtney Wolf for a new golf center. The resolution passed on a roll-call vote, 7-0.
Cybersecurity insurance: Trustees approved a cybersecurity insurance policy for calendar year 2026 with a new vendor, Beasley Insurance, and a higher deductible ($50,000 versus $25,000) that reduces the annual premium from over $23,000 to roughly $11,000 — a savings of approximately $12,800. District technology staff earned a 97/100 rating from the insurer for security measures such as multifactor authentication; trustees thanked the tech team for their work.
FEA MOU: The board approved the 2025–2027 Faribault Education Association memorandum of agreement, which allows eligible teachers to take a leave of absence and retire during the school year to aid hiring and reduce classroom disruption. Board members asked whether the district continues to pay both teacher and district TRA contributions during such leaves; staff explained the practice has been in place for years and remains part of the MOU.
Closed session: The board voted 7-0 to move into closed session under Minnesota law to conduct the superintendent's mid-year review.
All votes recorded during the business meeting were unanimous (7-0).
